Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College baseball team continues the 2015 campaign this weekend with a three-game set with Empire 8 Conference opponent Houghton College. The first of three games is scheduled for today as the Soaring Eagles travel to face the Highlanders in a nine-inning game at 4:00 p.m. before hosting Houghton in a doubleheader at Dunn Field at 1:00 p.m.
Last Time OutElmira put forth one of their best performances of the season in their last outing on Tuesday, April 7th, when the Soaring Eagles faced the Wildcats of Pennsylvania College of Technology. The Purple and Gold held a lead through six full innings, the most consecutive innings Elmira has maintained a lead this season, but a three-run home run by the Penn College's Zach Weil in the top of the seventh inning all but sealed a 5-3 win for the Wildcats.
Batting LeaderDylan Bellinger '17 continues to perform at the plate for the Soaring Eagles, as the Elmira, NY native enters Friday's contest on a five-game hitting streak. Bellinger leads Elmira with a .357 batting average on a team-high 15 hits, two of which are doubles.
We Meet AgainElmira and Houghton faced each other earlier this season in EC's second game as a collegiate program. The Soaring Eagles opened the game with a four-run first inning but Houghton would eventually claim a 20-7 win. Elmira registered 13 hits in the loss, which is tied for the season-high, with the other 13-hit performance coming on the road against Bard College.
