Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College baseball team jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning but the Soaring Eagles were unable to hold on as the Ducks of Stevens Institute of Technology claimed a 22-4 win.
Elmira's two runs in the bottom of the first inning came on pair of RBI by
Rey Colon' 18 and
Dennis Rudolph '18. Colon singled through the left side of Stevens' infield, scoring
Hayden Rothenberg '17 from third while Rudolph hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Colon from third.
The Soaring Eagles held onto their 2-0 lead through the first two innings until the Ducks scored a pair of runs in the top of the third inning. Stevens' two runs in the third were the first of 13 unanswered runs as the Ducks took a commanding 13-2 lead through six and a half innings.
EC crossed the plate in the bottom of the seventh and eighth innings but Stevens put a nine-spot on the scoreboard in the top of the ninth inning, sealing a road victory for the Ducks.
Elmira will look to bounce back tomorrow, April 27th, when the Soaring Eagles travel to Ithaca, NY to take on the Bombers of Ithaca College. The opening pitch is set for 4:00 p.m.
