New Rochelle, NY -- The Elmira College women's volleyball team split a pair of 3-1 decisions at the College of New Rochelle tri-match Saturday, falling to the host team before defeating Plattsburgh State.

Errors plagued the Soaring Eagles in the early match against the Blue Angels. As a team, EC collected 33 attacking errors and finished with a negative hitting percentage in two out of the four sets. Down 2-0, the Purple and Gold pieced together a strong third set with 18 kills and a .293 hitting percentage, but a match-high 12 attacking errors in the decisive fourth set allowed the College of New Rochelle to seal the win.

The offense improved mightily in the second game of the day against the Cardinals of Plattsburgh State, a 3-1 victory for the Soaring Eagles. EC recorded double-digit kills in every set but only committed double-digit attacking errors once. Defensively, four student-athletes finished with 10 or more digs and the Purple and Gold collected 74 as a team, a season high.

First-year star Natalie Schieder '19 led Elmira with 26 kills on the day while recording a double-double against Plattsburgh with 14 kills and 10 digs. Fellow freshman Taylor Kaznowski '19 combined for 48 assists and Amanda Blinkinsop '16 led EC in digs with 28.

Turning Point (New Rochelle)
Already down 1-0 after dropping the opening set, 25-23, to the host Blue Angels, EC committed 11 errors in the second set. As a result, the 25-18 loss put the Soaring Eagles down 2-0, a deficit Elmira could not overcome despite a strong effort in the third set.

Turning Point (Plattsburgh State)
Elmira was much more efficient in the second game of the tri-match, but the Cardinals forced EC to hit a match-worst .098 in the second set as they tied the match at 1-1. However, the Soaring Eagles responded by hitting .367 in the third set with only three attacking errors, taking the lead in the match with a 25-19 set victory.
