Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College women's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 [25-22, 25-20, 25-23] setback at home this afternoon against visiting Alfred State.  Today's loss is the first time this season Elmira has lost a match without winning a single set.

The first set saw both teams trade points back-and-forth until the Pioneers won seven of nine points midway through the set to take a 17-12 lead.  Elmira shaved the lead to two late in the set on a Kelsey Ross '16 kill, putting EC down just 24-22.  However, Jessica Padley would clinch the set with one of her team-high six kills.

Alfred jumped out to an early 7-4 lead in the second set but the Soaring Eagles responded well to take a 12-11 lead and eventually an 18-17 lead later in the set.  From that point on, the Pioneers would win seven of the final 10 points to claim the second set, 25-20.

Elmira looked like they were in the driver's seat in the third, taking sizeable leads at 9-4, 12-7, and again at 21-18.  Similar to previous sets, Alfred would rally to win seven of the final nine points to win the set and the match.

Turning Point
Alfred State was great down the stretch today.  Aside from the first set, when EC won six of the final 10 points, the Pioneers were nearly unstoppable in the second and third.  In the second, Alfred won eight of the final 10 to clinch the set and would go on to win seven of the last 10 points in the third to seal today's victory.
