Elmira is coming off an 0-3 week, where the Purple and Gold dropped a trio of hard fought games against some stiff non-conference competition in No. 19 SUNY Cortland, SUNY Geneseo, and Delaware Valley University.
First MeetingTuesday's meeting marks the first time in program history the Soaring Eagles will face the Wolfpack of Keuka, simply for the fact that Keuka introduced field hockey as a collegiate offering for the first time this fall.
Avoiding the Slow StartElmira struggled in their first three games in the opening minutes of play, conceding goals within the first 14 minutes of action in each of the three contests. The Soaring Eagles have allowed nine first half goals this season, including five that were scored in the first 15 minutes of play. However, the second half of play has been a strong point for Elmira in the early goings of this season, as the Soaring Eagles have allowed just three goals while scoring one themselves.
Season-High for ECIn Elmira's most recent contest against Delaware Valley, the Soaring Eagles launched a season-high 11 shots, four of which found their way on frame. EC's 11 shots is also the first time this season the Purple and Gold have produced double-digit shots.
Hockenberger Shines in Second HalfJulie Hockenberger '18 came in for relief duty in the second half against Delaware Valley. In 35 minutes of action, Hockenberger made four saves to keep the Aggies scoreless in the half. She now has nine saves on the season.
Scouting KeukaThe Wolfpack of Keuka enter Tuesday night's matchup having dropped their first two games in program history. Keuka opened the year with a 5-0 loss to Susquehanna University before taking a 4-0 loss against Ramapo College in their home opener. Keuka has struggled to find their rhythm on offense, as the Wolfpack have only been able to muster up two shots thus far into the season. Defensively, Elizabeth Sherman has been a mainstay in the cage for Keuka, playing in all 140 minutes while making a whopping 37 saves.
Looking AheadFollowing Tuesday's road contest, the Soaring Eagles return to the Murray Athletic Center on Saturday, September 12th, as the Elmira women open Empire 8 Conference play against Nazareth College. Game-time is set for 1:00 p.m.
