ROCHESTER, N.Y. --
The Elmira College men's soccer team fell in a pivotal Empire 8 Conference match to the Cardinals of St. John Fisher College, 1-0. With the loss, Elmira dropped to seventh place in the E8 standings, while Fisher vaulted into fourth place.

The two teams combined for eight first-half shots, five for Fisher and three for Elmira, but neither team was able to find the back of the net. Two of Elmira's attempts made their way on frame, but Cardinal goalkeeper Joe Catalfamo made saves on both shots. Fisher on the other hand placed three of its attempts on target with EC's Jordan Hodlofski '17 making a pair of saves to go along with a good defensive stop by outside back, Misi Glover '19.

Fisher broke through for the game-opening and eventual game-winning goal just 3:18 into the second stanza. Matthew Kaiser played the hero for the Cardinals, scoring his fourth of the year on an assist from Jake Gentile.

Elmira responded with six shots in the second half but was unable to beat Catalfamo, as the Cardinals marched away with a crucial one-goal conference victory.

Turning Point
After a scoreless 45-minute first half, Fisher struck for the game's first goal in the 49th minute. Elmira has had a knack this season of making second-half comebacks, but today EC's efforts came up short, as its six second-half shot attempts failed to find the back of the net.
