PINE VALLEY, N.Y. -- The Elmira College women's tennis team looked to turn things around in Empire 8 Conference play during today's bout with Stevens Institute of Technology. However, the Ducks of Stevens marched away with a 6-3 win over the Soaring Eagles, solidifying their spot as the No. 2 team in the E8, while the Elmira women remain in search of their first conference win of the year.
Â
Despite the setback, history was made this afternoon, as Elmira's
Tilila El Yazidi '20 became the program's single-season wins leader. The freshman talent was a double-winner this afternoon, which brought her season-win total to 22 matches. El Yazidi's 22-win total puts the Moroccan native in sole possession of first place, snapping a former four-way tie.
Â
Along with becoming the program's single-season wins leader, El Yazidi also tied the college record for single-season singles victories (11), and along with doubles partner
Megan Fitzgerald '18, tied for third place for single-season doubles wins (11).
Â
El Yazidi teamed up with Fitzgerald for an 8-4 win at first doubles to begin the day. The win marked the fourth consecutive win for the duo. Then El Yazidi cruised to an 8-1 victory at first singles, which was followed by an 8-5 win for Fitzgerald at the second spot.
