Opening faceoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
Last Time OutThe Elmira men fell to 0-2 on the season this past Saturday, dropping their home opener against Lebanon Valley College in a 14-5 final. The Soaring Eagles took a 2-1 lead into the second quarter, as
Nevin Olney '18 tied the game and
Skyler Pradelski '16 pushed the Purple and Gold ahead with 1:59 left in the opening quarter. However, a four-goal run by the Dutchmen in the second reestablished the visitors lead, which proved to be insurmountable. The Lebanon Valley defense locked in during the second half, allowing only one goal, while the Dutchmen attack strung together an eight-goal run to take control of the contest. Olney finished with two goals to pace the Soaring Eagles, while
Cameron Prior '17 finished with 24 saves in goal.
Busy in the CageElmira keeper
Cameron Prior '17 finished last season with two stellar performances, which included a record-setting 38 save performance against the Stevens Institute of Technology. He has picked up right where he left off through the first two weeks of the 2016 campaign. Although his goals-against average sits at 13.50, it is not an accurate representation of his body of work, as he has recorded 20-plus saves in each of his first two starts. He is tied for the Empire 8 Conference lead with 45 saves, while his 22.50 saves per game average sits alone for the top spot in the conference.
Olney Carrying OffenseSecond-year attacker
Nevin Olney '18 has gotten off to a strong start to the 2016 campaign. He has found the back of the net three times through the team's first two games, which included the first multi-goal by an EC player this season in the most recent contest to Lebanon Valley. He is well on his way to surpassing his five goal and one assist scoring total from his debut season in 2015.
Bourdon Among Conference LeadersSenior defender
AJ Bourdon '16 has been extremely active in the defensive zone through Elmira's first two contests. The Ile-Bizard, Quebec, native has gotten off to a strong start with 15 groundballs and four caused turnovers. His 7.50 groundballs per game average is the third-best mark in the Empire 8, while his 2.0 caused-turnovers per game are tied for fourth in the conference ranks.
Scouting CazenoviaCazenovia College enters Wednesday's contest with an 0-2 mark on the season with losses to Marymount University and Clark Univeristy during the team's season-opening trip to Clearwater, FL. The Wildcats actually led Marymount 10-5 in the season opener, but the Saints responded with seven of the last eight goals, including five unanswered to complete the 12-11 comeback. Cazenovia's second contest was not nearly as close, as Clark ran away with the 21-5 win. Joe Della (2g-4a) and Kyle Kingsley (3g-3a) pace the Wildcat attack with six points apiece, while Eric Hanover leads the squad in goals with four. Alex Delevan has been Cazenovia's primary keeper, allowing 27 goals and making 15 saves.
All-Time SeriesWednesday night's contest will be the second all-time meeting between the two programs. Elmira took the first clash in a thrilling 9-8 overtime decision in 2015. EC jumped out to an early 5-1 lead, but had to scratch and claw late to force overtime.
Skyler Pradelski '16 equalized the game at 8-8 with 7:53 to play, while
Anthony LaRusso '17 scored the lone goal in overtime to push the Soaring Eagles on top.
Looking AheadThe Elmira men have a quick turnaround as they continue their season-long four-game homestand against SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday, March 19th. Opening faceoff is slated for 1:00 p.m.
