Complete Game Notes
ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The Elmira College women's basketball team eyes its third-straight Empire 8 Conference win, when it welcomes Ithaca College to Speidel Gymnasium on Saturday, January 21st. The game is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m.
FRANKLIN'S FIRST DOUBLE-DOUBLE
- Freshman guard Lauren Franklin '20 earned more playing time as the season progresses, and she is taking full advantage of her opportunity.
- Franklin set new career highs in both points (15) and rebounds (13) in EC's win over Alfred on Thursday.
- It was the first double-double of Franklin's rookie campaign.
- She became the first Soaring Eagle freshman to post a double-double since Danielle Cleary '18 scored a program-record 37 points and grabbed 11 boards against Alfred on February 21, 2015.
- Thursday's contest was Franklin's second-straight strong performance, as she tallied seven points and grabbed nine boards in EC's win over E8 foe Houghton College on Tuesday.
- After this recent run of success, the 5-foot-8-inch guard has raised her scoring average to 5.6 points and her rebounding average to 6.6 boards per game.
HEATON FINDING HER STROKE
- Ever since scoring a season-low three points in EC's January 3rd matchup with Hartwick College, Lindsey Heaton '19 has gone on an offensive tear.
- The sophomore guard proceeded to score double-digit points in the next five contests.
- Heaton is the only Soaring Eagle to score double-digit points in each of the last five games.
- In those five games, she averaged a team-leading 12.8 points and has dished out 23 assists.
- Heaton has also taken care of the ball of late, as she has committed three or less turnover in three-straight games.
- She has also been shooting the ball better from behind the 3-point arc, as she has made a trey in the last five contests.
ITHACA AT A GLANCE
- The Bombers enter Saturday's matchup playing some of the best basketball in the E8, as their overall record sits at 12-3 and their conference record stands at 4-2.
- Ithaca faced some adversity in conference play, as it owns an 11-point loss to Hartwick and a 31-point loss to Stevens Institute of Technology.
- As a team, the Bombers own a league-leading 72.7 scoring average.
- With this inflated scoring average, the Bombers hold the conference's largest scoring margin (14.6).
- Seniors Erin Ferguson (11.3) and Ali Ricchiuti (11.2) sit just one-tenth of a point apart as the team's leading point scorers.
- Ferguson has been one of the most efficient players in the Empire 8, as her conference-leading 56.7 field-goal percentage ranks 15th in the nation.
- The reigning All-Conference Second Team honoree also paces the team in rebounds per game (6.1) and is tied for the team lead in blocks (13).
- On defense, Julie Yacovoni '18 has been a terror for opposing offenses, as her 38 steals ranks second in the E8 behind Ashelyne Babb of Utica College (52).
