Complete Game Notes

ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The Elmira College women's basketball team squares off against Empire 8 Conference foe Nazareth College on Tuesday, January 24th. The matchup at Speidel Gymnasium is set to begin at 6:00 p.m.

THE DOUBLE-DOUBLE DUO
  • The pair of Rachel Vespucci '19 and Lauren Franklin '20 have played exceptionally well in EC's three games last week.
  • Starting with Tuesday's win over Houghton College, the duo has averaged a double-double and has been a main reason that the Soaring Eagles earned two conference victories in that span.
  • Vespucci continued her impressive run of play, as she averaged 10.7 points and a team-leading 13.0 rebounds per game.
  • After this recent surge, the Macedon, New York, native has increased her lead over Megan Brown of Stevens Institute of Technology in the conference rebounds per game ranks by seven-tenths of a point (10.9).
  • Franklin has played just as well, as she averaged 11.7 points and 10.3 boards in that stretch.
  • The 5-foot-8-inch guard also posted the first double-double of her career with 15 points and 13 rebounds in EC's 64-52 win over Alfred University on Thursday.

CLEARY INCHES CLOSER TO 1,000 POINTS
  • With 19 points on Saturday, Danielle Cleary '18 has 973 career points.
  • With 27 more points, the Rochester, New York, native will become the sixth Soaring Eagle to reach the 1,000-point milestone.
  • With her performance on Saturday, Cleary also passed Mary Carole Starke '83 (957) for seventh place on Elmira's all-time scoring leaders list.
  • After three free throw makes against the Bombers, Cleary has made 265 in her EC career.
  • Her 265 free throws rank the junior guard third on Elmira's all-time free throw leaders lists, 75 behind Martha Bolduc '97 (340).

NAZARETH AT A GLANCE
  • The Golden Flyers enter Tuesday's contest riding a season-long four-game losing streak.
  • After defeating Houghton and Alfred University in its first two conference games, Naz has not been able to defeat its last four E8 foes.
  • Following Nazareth's recent results, its record sits at 6-9 overall and 2-4 in conference.
  • In their last four games, the Golden Flyers have struggled to defend, as their challengers averaged 71.3 points in those games.
  • Despite its recent struggles, Nazareth still sits second in the conference with a plus-11.2 scoring margin, due in large part to Naz's 71.0 scoring average, which ranks second in the E8.
  • Nazareth guard Sam Sorge has become one of the best offensive weapons in the entire conference, as she owns a conference-leading 19.9 points per game average.
  • Sorge also leads the E8 with a 37.4 3-point field goal percentage.
  • Junior guard Samantha Peebles has also played well for the Golden Flyers, as she paces the team in assists per game (3.7) and steals (1.8), while also ranking second in rebounds (7.5).
