Women's Basketball Readies for E8 Tilt Against St. John Fisher

ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The Elmira College women's basketball team welcomes St. John Fisher College to Speidel Gymnasium for an Empire 8 Conference bout on Tuesday, January 31st. The Soaring Eagles and the Cardinals are scheduled to take flight at 6:00 p.m.

HEATON'S HELPERS
  • Lindsey Heaton '19 posted her strongest game of the season in EC's 74-53 loss to Hartwick College on Saturday.
  • The New Milford, Connecticut, product scored a season-high 17 points to go along with a career-high nine assists.
  • After Saturday's performance, Heaton passed Utica College's Ashelyne Babb for first place in the conference with 4.5 assists per game.
  • The 5-foot-4-inch guard became the first Soaring Eagle to dish out nine assists since Marcia Coakley '09 did so on February 6, 2009, against Utica College.
  • Her nine assists against the Hawks are also the second most an E8 player has recorded in a game this season, only behind Babb's 10 against Hartwick on January 5th.
  • With 17 points against the Hawks, Heaton extended her streak of double-digit point games to nine straight, which includes all eight Empire 8 conference matchups.

VESPUCCI CONTINUES STRONG PLAY
  • Rachel Vespucci '19 sustained her strong play on the boards with 15 rebounds on Thursday against Wells College and eight against the Hawks on Saturday.
  • With her 23 boards in those two contests, Vespucci maintained her double-double average with 11.9 points and a conference-leading 11.0 boards per game.
  • She remains the sole player in the conference to average 10-plus points and 10-plus rebounds.
  • With her 13 points and 15 rebounds against the Express, Vespucci has recorded nine double-doubles in her sophomore campaign, which rank 44th in the country.
  • Her conference-leading 4.7 offensive rebounds per game also put her 21st in all of Division III.

ST. JOHN FISHER AT A GLANCE              
  • The Cardinals enter today's matchup with an 8-10 overall and a 5-4 conference record. 
  • St. John Fisher's most recent contest was a 58-41 setback at the hands of Ithaca College on Saturday.
  • Fisher's main strength has been on the defensive end of the court, as its 10.50 steals per game sit second in the conference and its 3.83 blocks rank third. 
  • In terms of steals, senior guard Emily Piacentini paces the team and is tied with EC's Danielle Cleary '18 for second-place in the conference with 2.2 per game.
  • Junior forward Nicole Robinson has been a force in the middle of the Cardinals' defense all year, as she is tied with Madison Detwiler of Houghton College for the conference lead with 2.2 blocks per game.
  • In terms of offensive production, junior Caroline Robertson paces the team with 13.3 points per game. 
  • The 5-foot-10-inch guard has been efficient from the charity stripe, shooting 73.7-percent, which ranks as the sixth-highest free throw percentage in the conference. 
  • Robertson has also done well on the boards, as she leads the team with 6.8 rebounds per game.
