ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The Elmira College women's soccer team will return to action this afternoon, when the Soaring Eagles welcome the Pacers of Marywood University to Campus Field. The non-conference contest is scheduled to begin with a 3:30 p.m. kick-off.
LAST TIME OUT
The Purple and Gold played Fredonia to a tight first half on Tuesday, October 3, but the Blue Devils pulled away in the second half to claim a 5-1 win on their home turf. Fredonia held a slight lead in shots in the first 45 minutes, 7-to-4, as they jumped out to a 1-0 lead at the break. However, in the second half Audrey Yokopovich scored twice and Shania Platt tallied her second goal to extend the advantage to 5-0. In the 90th minute,
Jordyn Rousselle '18 disrupted Fredonia's bid for a shutout by scoring her team-leading fifth goal of the season, with an assist from
Kerri Clark '18, her first point of the 2017 campaign.
ROUSSELLE RANKED
Rousselle, Elmira's leading scorer with a single-season career high 12 points, continues to rank among the leading scorers in the Empire 8 Conference. The senior forward from Stillwater, New York, is fifth in the league in points per game (1.20) and sixth in goals per game (0.50).
SCOUTING THE PACERS
Marywood enters today's non-conference contest with a 6-5-0 overall record and a 6-1-0 mark inside the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC). As the Pacers' record indicates, all six of their wins have been registered inside league play and they are winless against non-conference opposition. After opening the year with four consecutive losses, the Pacers have regrouped to play some of their better soccer of the season and head into this afternoon's bout with a 6-1 record in their last seven games. Offense has been the key for the Pacers, who rank sixth in the nation in scoring offense and have scored no less than five goals in any of their six victories. The Pacers illustrated their offensive prowess last week when they toppled Rosemont, 8-0, and beat Immaculata by a 5-0 final score. Renae Moken leads all of Division III in assists (12) and is 28th in the country in points (30), while she and Julie Youngman pace the team with nine goals apiece. Overall, 13 different Pacers have scored at least one goal and 18 have at least one point.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Today's contest will mark the first-ever meeting between Elmira and Marywood, one of three teams EC faces for the first time in 2017.
UP NEXT
The Soaring Eagles will remain at Campus Field for their next match on Saturday, October 14, when they welcome the Pioneers of Utica College for a 12:00 p.m. Empire 8 Conference match. The contest will also serve as EC's Paint the Field Pink game in which the Elmira women will don pink uniforms to help raise breast cancer awareness. EC will be charging a minimal $2 admission fee and will also hold a 50/50 raffle, with all proceeds to be donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
