ELMIRA, N.Y. -- After picking up back-to-back wins, the Elmira College women's volleyball team will look to keep things rolling this weekend when the Soaring Eagles travel to Canton, New York, to compete in the Roos Classic, hosted by SUNY Canton. Action begins on Saturday, October 14, as EC squares off with SUNY Canton at 6:30 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
Elmira made the trek to Williamsport, Pennsylvania, last time out and picked up a 3-0 sweep against the Wildcats of the Pennsylvania College of Technology. The Soaring Eagles produced a .234 attack percentage, the team's highest success rate since September 16, when EC connected at a .279 clip against Hilbert College. A total of 10 players logged kills for Elmira, six of which produced five-or-more kills. Taylor Kaznowski '19 registered her eighth double-double of the season with a 25-assist, 13-dig performance. Both numbers were match highs. Natalie Schieder '19 finished with match highs in kills (8) and service aces (5), and also amassed double-digit digs with 10. Karina Hastings '19 produced a match-high .833 attack percentage on a 5k-0e-6ta stat line, while Savannah Terry '21 was close behind with a line of 7k-1e-13ta (.462).
 
SCOUTING SUNY CANTON
The Roos enter the weekend with a 6-15 overall record and are just 1-5 in their last six matches, which includes a 3-0 loss to Elmira on September 30. Canton has only played on its home court at the Roos House twice, both which resulted in losses. Shea Norton has been the team's go-to option on offense, as she averages 2.83 kills per set on 212 total kills to go along with a team-high 33 service aces. Defensively, Jenna Roat has had a standout year with 346 digs (4.55 per set)and is second on the team in aces with 30, just three behind Norton. Elmira will also need to be aware of where Marissa Ixtlahuac is on the court, as the six-foot middle blocker boasts team highs in solo blocks (15), block assists (31) and total blocks (46).
 
SCOUTING UMFK
The Bengals are 19-2 this season and are riding high on a 16-match winning streak that dates back to September 9. Maine at Fort Kent's last loss was on September 8, when it dropped a four-set decision to St. Joseph's College of Maine at the Saint Joseph's College Autumn Invitational. Three Bengals have 100-or-more kills on the season, led by Mia Satterfield's 148 kills (2.74 per set). The other two 100-plus kill performers, Payton Spradling and Adrianna Gutierrez, are also two of the top defensive players on the team. Gutierrez is second on the squad with 240 digs (4.21 per set) and Spradling is close behind with 204 (3.55 per set). Kamalani Kahele paces the Bengals with 314 digs (6.04 per set).
 
SCOUTING SUNY POTSDAM
SUNY Potsdam owns a 9-11 overall record with a 1-5 mark inside the ultra-competitive SUNYAC. The Bears sported a record above .500 prior to a recent three-match skid with losses against SUNY Oneonta, Fredonia and Oswego State. Similar to UMFK, the Bears have a trio of players with 100-plus kills on the season and are led by senior Kelsea Healis' 144 kills (2.03 per set). Healis also shares the team lead in service aces with Alaskan native Rachel Toph, both of whom have 27 aces to their name thus far into the season. Defensively, Maddie Kaplan and Topf sit one-two on the team leaderboard in digs with 231 and 205, respectively. At the net, Kelsey Tomkins has been solid with 44 blocks on the year (13bs-31ba).
 
LOOKING AHEAD
Elmira returns to Spediel Gymnasium for its 2017 home finale on Thursday, October 19, when the Soaring Eagles host Misericordia University in non-league action. The opening serve is set for 7:00 p.m. Elmira will also honor its graduating members of the Class of 2018 prior to Thursday night's contest.
