ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The Elmira College field hockey team will play its final road game of the 2017 season on Tuesday, October 24, when the Soaring Eagles hike to Keuka Park, New York, to face the Keuka College Wolves. The non-conference contest will begin at 7:00 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
The Soaring Eagles were defeated by Houghton, 4-1, in their penultimate Empire 8 Conference game on the road on Saturday afternoon. All four goals tallied by the Highlanders came in the first half, as they outshot Elmira 20-to-3 in the period and held a 9-to-0 advantage in penalty corners. EC halted Houghton's shutout bid in the 61st minute, when senior
Katie Carroll '18 fed classmate
Alison Mariano '18 for her sixth goal of the season. Goalie
Tina O'Donnell '20 did not allow a goal in the second half and made two saves, while starter
Julie Hockenberger '18 made six stops in the first half.

OFFENSIVE IMPROVEMENTS
With two games remaining on the 2017 season slate, the Soaring Eagles have already surpassed last season's scoring output by a significant margin. Elmira has scored 20 goals this year, five more than 2016. EC also has more multi-goal scorers than it did a year ago with five, led by Mariano and freshman
Janie Kempf '21 with six goals apiece. In addition, Mariano's 14 points are the most recorded by a Soaring Eagle since Alli Gilbert '16 posted 17 during her senior season in 2015.
Â
ALL-TIME SERIES
The Soaring Eagles will be facing the Wolves for the third consecutive season on Tuesday night. Elmira has defeated Keuka, which played its inaugural season in 2015, in both previous matchups by a combined score of 7-0. Last season, EC captured a 4-0 victory at the Murray Athletic Center in Pine Valley, New York.
SCOUTING KEUKA
The Wolves, who are playing their regular-season finale on Tuesday, have won a program-record three games in their third season of varsity competition. Their most impressive victory was an 8-2 triumph over Bryn Athyn on September 23, while their most recent win was a 2-1 defeat of Wilson on October 14. The roster is young, with a combined 13 freshmen and sophomores, but only four juniors and no seniors. The trio of Shelby Lamb, Alysa Maddaleno and Nicole Wilson have each scored a team-high five goals, while Maddaleno and Wilson have each handed out four assists for a team-leading 14 points. In goal, second-year netminder Kassidy Valentine has started all 15 games and has played nearly 95 percent of her team's minutes between the posts. Valentine owns a 3.12 goals-against average, a .714 save percentage and 115 saves.
LOOKING AHEAD
The EC field hockey team will conclude the regular season on Saturday, October 28, when the Soaring Eagles host Nazareth College in the 2017 finale. The Empire 8 Conference game will also serve as Class of 2018 Recognition Day, and will begin promptly at 1:00 p.m.
