PITTSFORD, N.Y. --
Elmira College men's tennis fell in its final match of the 2016-17 season to St. John Fisher College by an 8-1 final score at the Mendon Racquet & Pool Club in Pittsford, New York. The lone winner of the afternoon for the Soaring Eagles was third-year netter Patrick Tracey '18, whose three-set win this afternoon placed him in a four-way tie for the most wins in single-season program history (21), a milestone the Bardonia, New York, native has reached in back-to-back seasons.

Tracey rolled to a 6-2 win in the opening set, but his counterpart from St. John Fisher, John Miller, rallied with an impressive 6-1 victory in the second frame. However, Tracey showed his resiliency by edging Miller on his home court by a single break of serve in the third to win the match in three sets 6-2, 1-6, 6-3.

The win for Tracey not only tied the single-season total wins record, it also went down as the second-highest single-season singles win total in EC history. Tracey's 12 singles victories, nine of which have come at the No. 3 position, tie his former teammate Austin Mansell '16 for the two spot in the record book. Tracey is now the proud owner of the top two single-season singles win totals in Elmira's history, after setting the program record with 13 victories during the 2015-16 campaign.

Tracey nearly set a new EC benchmark for single-season wins, but came up just short in doubles action with partner Theo Tran '20, as the duo were edged by Fisher's top tandem by a single break of serve, 8-6. Elmira also fell at the second and third doubles positions by scorers of 8-2 and 8-3, respectively.

Aside from Tracey's win, every other singles match today ended in straight sets in favor of the Cardinals. The closest match outside of Tracey's took place at the No. 5 spot, as rookie Stephen Gervase '20 fell to Fisher's Jerret Pelton, 7-5, 6-2.
