The visiting St. John Fisher College Cardinals powered their way to a 14-5 victory in Monday's Empire 8 Conference series finale against the Elmira College baseball team at historic Dunn Field.

St. John Fisher – a team that began the 2018 campaign ranked in multiple national polls after qualifying for last year's NCAA Tournament – tallied 14 runs on 13 hits and was aided by five EC errors. The Soaring Eagles scored their five runs on eight hits, three of which went for extra bases.

The Cards scored once on an RBI base hit in the top of the first inning, and Elmira quickly answered in the home half of the frame. Sam Plaugher '20 led off the inning with a double into the right-center gap and was plated by Dennis Rudolph '18, who dropped a shallow fly ball into no man's land down the right-field line.

After evening the score at 1-all in the first, the Purple and Gold gave up 13 unanswered runs to Fisher. The biggest blow came in the top of the seventh inning when senior catcher Victor Konstantinovsky launched a grand slam over the wall in left field.

Down 14-1, the Soaring Eagles scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth. Tommy Fogarty '20 doubled off of reliever Caleb Lee, who then plunked Nick Sampogna '18. Both then scored when the St. John Fisher defense committed two errors on the same play. The final two runs came via a Jansen Crossley '20 RBI single and a bases-loaded RBI single off the bat Jack Volpe '20.

Rudolph led Soaring Eagle batters with two hits to go along with one stolen base and one run batted in. On the mound, freshman Taber Carter '21 pitched 1.1 scoreless innings of relief with two strikeouts.
