ITHACA, N.Y. --
The Elmira College baseball team wrapped up Empire 8 Conference play in 2018 with a 12-0 loss on the road Thursday afternoon against E8 Tournament-bound Ithaca College at Freeman Field.

The Soaring Eagles were outhit, 18-to-7, and were held scoreless despite putting runners in scoring position on several occasions. In the top of the first, Bryce Plante '18 and Justin Iannotto '20 each singled in the first at-bats, but an inning-ending double play thwarted the early opportunity. Similarly, in the sixth inning, three consecutive singles by Plante, Conor Bawiec '18, and Tommy Fogarty '20 loaded the bases with one out, but another double play kept Elmira off the scoreboard.

Ithaca scored four runs in the second and one in the third to take a lead it never relinquished. The Bombers then combined to score seven runs across the fifth, sixth and seventh innings. Matt Carey led all batters by going 4-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs.

For Elmira, both Plante and Dennis Rudolph '18 finished 2-for-4, and Rudolph added his team-leading 18th stolen base of the year.

Out of the bullpen, Garinder Singh Sarana '20 was the only one of four EC pitchers not to allow a run, as he struck out one in a scoreless inning of work.
