ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- It was a tough afternoon for the Elmira College men's lacrosse team, as the Soaring Eagles were held scoreless in a 28-0 loss in the 2019 Empire 8 Conference opener at Nazareth College on Saturday.
The Golden Flyers held significant advantages in shots on goal (40-to-4), ground balls (80-to-27), and faceoff wins (27-to-4). Control at the X helped the Naz offense reel off three consecutive goals in a span of 1:40 early in the opening period. Nazareth scored 14 runs in each half, led by Drew McNerney (2g-3a) and Kevin Hussey (2g-3a) with five points apiece.
The trio of
Jacob Mattice '21,
Cam Brickey '19, and
Austin Spiridilozzi '20 paced EC with five ground balls apiece while combining for five of the Soaring Eagles' nine caused turnovers.
Spencer MacLean '20 and
Spencer Carter '20 each caused two turnovers and collected a pair of ground balls. Third-year midfielder
James Mayer '20, who won three draws, took three of EC's shots, including two on goal.
In goal, Mattice played all 60 minutes and logged double-digit saves for the sixth time this season with 12 against the Golden Flyers.
