Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Every Leads Men's Basketball With 20 Points in Loss vs. Fisher

ELMIRA, N.Y. -- For the second time in as many days, Jeremy Every '20 reached the 20-point plateau, as the senior was one of three from the Elmira College men's basketball team to score double figures in Sunday's 81-68 loss against St. John Fisher College.

One game removed from a career-high 27-point outburst on Saturday against Nazareth College, Every made his second consecutive start and poured in 20 more points against the Cardinals (15-7, 10-1 E8). The guard from Sacramento, California, made 8-of-15 field goals (53.3%), including his only attempt from 3-point range. Every also converted his three foul shots against the Cardinals, making him a perfect 16-of-16 from the line over the weekend.

Junior forward Shawn Backus '21 finished with 15 points, and fellow junior Isiah Charles '21 added a career-high 14 points in 20 minutes off of the bench. Charles, a third-year guard from Montebello, New York, made 2-of-3 tries from beyond the arc, in addition to a pair of steals, two rebounds, and one assist.

As a team, Elmira (2-20, 1-10 E8), nearly kept pace with the Fisher offense. The Soaring Eagles were 26-of-61 from the field (42.6%), just a few points shy of SJFC's 46.0 field-goal percentage (29-of-63).

The first minute of the contest began as planned by the Soaring Eagles, as Kyle McCreery '20 was good from the right elbow for a trey, and Kyle Kokoskie '22 took the ensuing possession to the hoop for two. That put the Purple and Gold ahead 5-0 in the first 48 seconds, but Fisher turned to Sammy Robinson and Dennis Hare for eight unanswered points to give SJFC the lead for good. EC came within five points at 28-23 with 6:31 to play in the half following a 5-0 run by Every. Before the intermission, however, the Cardinals padded their cushion to nine points, 45-36, and led by as many as 18 points in the second half.
