PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The Elmira College Women's Volleyball team suffered a 3-0 setback at the hands of the reigning Empire 8 Conference Champions, St. John Fisher, on Tuesday evening. After playing their closest set in the first, Fisher would go on to take a 3-0 victory in the conference opener for both teams.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The first set rallied back-and-forth, seeing Fisher score the first five points of the game before three for Elmira. The Cardinals would go on to take seven of the next ten on their way to an early 12-6 lead. After trailing 17-10, the Soaring Eagles would work their way back into the set after taking advantage of a pair of kills and attacking errors. Trailing by a pair (18-16), the Soaring Eagles were forced to use a timeout after Fisher gained momentum on three straight points. Out of the break, the Cardinals would score three of the next five, taking the opener 25-19.
Sydney Meyers '25 helped Elmira take an early lead in the second set after notching a pair of kills. Trailing 6-5, the Cardinals scored six of the next seven points and never looked back on their way to a 25-14 second set victory to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
The third set saw much of the same from the second, as the Cardinals jumped out to a 15-3 lead and would eventually take a 25-9 third set, 3-0 victory in the match.
Meyers and
Amelia Martin '23 led the way for the Purple & Gold with four kills apiece, with Martin also adding 11 assists to her total.

Elmira will be back in action on Thursday, September 23, as they take on the Hawks from Hilbert College with first serve set for 7:00 PM. The game is a makeup from the original September 8
th postponement.
