JUST THE BASICS:
SCORE: Elmira 2, Alfred State 2
LOCATION: Elmira, N.Y.
TEAM RECORDS: Elmira (6-3-2, 0-2 E8), Alfred State (5-3-3, 1-0 AMCC)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Mlunguza opened the scoring for the Soaring Eagles four minutes into play when he won his team a penalty shot after receiving a loose ball, taking a turn in the left side of the penalty area before being taken down by an Alfred State defender. Mlunguza stepped up to the penalty spot and calmly tucked the ball away into the right corner of goal to make it 1-0 Elmira. In the 35th minute, the Purple & Gold found the back of the net again when Frontin followed up a long shot by teammate Petro Gallina. The goalkeeper was unable to secure the save and it bounced to Frontin in the middle of the penalty area where he was able to head it past the goalkeeper for EC's second score. Late in the second half, both teams had a man sent off and were forced to play with ten men. Alfred State started to create some chances and with just under seven minutes remaining, the Pioneers won a penalty kick which they would put away to cut the Elmira lead in half. Five minutes later, Alfred broke through again as Gavin Rice found himself free on the right side and ripped a ball into the left side of goal to tie things up. The Pioneers won a final corner in the waning seconds but the Soaring Eagles were able to clear it as time ran out.
