ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Elmira College Women's Basketball team moved to 4-0 prior to the Thanksgiving break on Tuesday evening, posting a 59-44 victory over the visitors from Hilbert College. After outscoring the opposition 21-3 in the opening quarter, the Soaring Eagles would face a tough test in the third quarter before closing out the game in the fourth with a 16-10 advantage.
Desiree Roy '25 posted a career day for the Soaring Eagles in the win, posting 21 points and 13 rebounds while tacking on four assists and four steals.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Soaring Eagles got out to a quick start, outshooting the Hawks 21-3 in the first quarter while not allowing the visitors to convert on a field goal in the frame. EC on the other hand went 8-for-20 from the field, which included an 8-0 run to begin the contest.
In the second, the teams battled back and forth, with Hilbert holding the 15-14 advantage in the frame. At the break, EC held a 35-18 lead. In the first half, the Soaring Eagles shot 38.9% as a team compared to 26.1% for the Hawks. Roy led the charge with 11 points and nine rebounds, while EC outscored the opposition in points from turnovers, 17-4.
In the second half, the Soaring Eagles faced adversity in the third quarter as the Hawks adjusted both its defensive sets, along with its physicality getting to the hoop. Holding a 17-point lead at the break, that number would be brought down to seven at the end of the third quarter with Hilbert posting a 50.0% shooting effort from the field in the frame.
Elmira would close out the fourth with a 16-10 advantage and hold onto the contest, winning 59-44. The Soaring Eagles would force 31 Hawk turnovers, while outsourcing Hilbert 25-12 in points off turnovers.
