HOUGHTON, N.Y. – The Elmira College Women's Basketball team dropped a hard-fought conference matchup with the Highlanders from Houghton College on Friday evening, 56-52. After holding a narrow one-point lead going into halftime, Elmira was outscored 20-11 in the third quarter as the Highlanders escaped with a four-point victory.
For the game, Desiree Roy '25 tallied 19 points and 13 rebounds for her 9th double-double of the season, while Nevaeh Winston '25 tied a career-best with 13 rebounds while adding 11 points to the ledger.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Winston added five of her 11 points in the first quarter on a perfect 2-of-2 shooting from the floor. Teammate Taylor Albrecht '22 added four first-quarter points for a team total of 13 while the Highlanders shot 42.9% from the floor in the opening frame to take a quick 17-13 lead.
In the second quarter, Roy scored eight points while grabbing four rebounds on 4-of-5 shooting. Houghton scored all its points in the quarter from beyond the arc, shooting 4-of-19 in total while converting on 4-of-15 shots from deep. Despite outshooting Elmira from beyond the arc in the second quarter, Elmira upped its shooting percentage to 61.5% in the second quarter to carry a narrow 30-29 lead into the break.
Houghton took an eight-point lead in the third quarter after converting on 5-of-7 shots from deep (71.4%). Elmira, on the other hand, shot just 21.1% in the quarter as the Highlanders took a 49-41 lead into the fourth.
Elmira clawed back in the fourth, outscoring Houghton 7-to-11 in the quarter, but came up just short in the four-point loss. For the game, Elmira shot 33.3% from the floor (22-of-66) while Houghton shot a clip of 30.2% which included a 14-of-38 effort from long range.
