Second-Chance Points Prove Costly For Elmira in Tuesday Evening Loss to Alfred

ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Elmira College Men's Basketball team dropped its Tuesday evening matchup against the Saxons from Alfred University, 75-59. The Saxons used a 20-6 advantage in second-chance points from 16 offensive rebounds, as well as 10 made shots from deep to help spark its win.

Bryan Adams '25 led Elmira in points with 19, while Quintel Clements '22 (8 points, 5 rebounds), and Rashaad Nurse '22 (7 points, 5 rebounds) each contributed to the scoring.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Elmira jumped out to a quick lead over the first four minutes of play, as Adams scored five of the Soaring Eagles' first nine points of the contest. After Alfred clawed its way back to take the lead 12-9, the Soaring Eagles used a 13-3 run, capped off by a deep ball from Jeff Jung Jr. '23 to put Elmira ahead 22-15. From there, the Saxons would close out the half on a 19-8 run, flipping the score as they carried the 36-30 advantage into the break.
 
In the opening half, the Saxons converted on 13 of its 27 shots (48.2%) while knocking down six shots from beyond the arc. Elmira, on the other hand, shot 42.4% for the half, making two shots from three-point range. Adams scored 11 of his 15 points in the frame, while EC led the turnover battle after forcing the Saxons to cough up the ball seven times. The lead changed hands seven times, with three ties in the opening frame.
 
In the second half, the Saxons outscored the Soaring Eagles by ten, with Brewster Marshall scoring nine points for Alfred over the first eight minutes of the frame.
 
The Saxons, who collected just five offensive rebounds in the first half, were able to grab 11 in the second on its way to a 75-59 victory.  

UP NEXT:
The Soaring Eagles return to the court tomorrow evening when it plays Hartwick in Oneonta. The game is a makeup of the originally scheduled game on January 21. Tip is set for 5:00 PM.
