ALFRED, N.Y. – The Elmira College men's wrestling program traveled for a dual matchup on Saturday afternoon against the Alfred State Pioneers inside Orvis Gymnasium. The Pioneers would come away victorious in the dual despite Elmira winning two of the three contested bouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Hollis Berry '25 opened the contested portion of the dual wrestling at 165 pounds for the Soaring Eagles. Berry would see himself trailing on both the scoreboard and riding time early in the bout before using a pair of huge moves to pull the score level. Berry would eventually work ahead on the scoreboard and ride out the clock to secure a victory via decision for the Purple & Gold.

Darius Green '24 would experience the same start to his bout for the Soaring Eagles while wrestling at 285 pounds. The Pioneers would take an early lead in the bout and work to get the riding clock in their favor in the first period. Green would change the momentum late in the period and continue into the second period by reversing the riding time in his favor. Green would hold serve in his bout as the clock ran out to secure a victory via decision for Elmira.

The Soaring Eagles also sent Bryan Stafford '26 to the mat to wrestle at 184 pounds against the Pioneers. Stafford battled early in the bout and looked to be in a good position offensively until Alfred State would turn the momentum around. The Pioneers would secure the victory via a pin over Stafford to notch their lone contested win of the match.

Alfred State would be victorious at each of the remaining several weight classes via forfeit to secure the overall match victory against the Soaring Eagles.
