BUFFALO, N.Y. – Elmira College women's basketball took on the Bengals of Buffalo State on Sunday afternoon in its second game of the Buffalo State Invitational. In a closely contested game with four lead changes, the Purple & Gold sealed the 54-43 victory down the stretch thanks to 14 fourth-quarter points by Alleney Klunk '24, including two made three-pointers.
Klunk led the way for the Soaring Eagles with 21 points during the afternoon, while Laura Bogota '25 tallied 19 points with a team-high three assists and three steals. Nevaeh Winston '25 added 14 rebounds for Elmira.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The first quarter saw four Soaring Eagles contribute with buckets, including Klunk and Mallory Welty '26 both hitting three-pointers for Elmira. EC went into the second quarter with a 10-8 lead.
- The second quarter saw the Bengals take a brief 13-12 lead with 4:36 left in the period. However, Mia Welty '26 notched a three of her own 22 seconds later. A pair of Bogota makes from behind the arc on consecutive possessions helped Elmira build a 25-18 lead going into the half.
- A strong Bengals start to the third quarter saw them take a 32-29 lead after going on a 14-4 run for the first seven minutes. However, six Bogota points at the end of the third helped Elmira retake the lead, taking a 35-33 advantage into the final quarter.
- After Winston made a pair of free throws to start the fourth, Buffalo State scored four unanswered points to tie the game at 37 with eight minutes left. However, with 5:58 remaining, Klunk made her first of two three-pointers. Klunk would score ten-straight points for Elmira, giving it a 47-39 advantage over the Bengals with two minutes remaining. Klunk scored 14 of Elmira's 19 fourth-quarter points, and the Soaring Eagles kept the Buffalo State offense at bay down the stretch to see out the game and claim the 54-43 victory.
