MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Elmira College women's basketball team finished the opening semester of play off with a 58-49 victory over the hosts from Morrisville State on Friday evening. In its first matchup between the teams since the 2006-07 season, the Soaring Eagles put on a dominant fourth-quarter effort, which saw EC score the first ten points of the period in its eventual victory.
Nevaeh Winston '25 would lead the Soaring Eagles with 11 of her 19 game-best points in the final frame.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Soaring Eagles would score its first bucket of the game at the 8:40 mark in the first following a layup from Nevaeh Winston '25. The teams would go back and forth with the Mustang lead growing to as many as six in the frame before a 6-0 run on consecutive three-pointers from Taylor Jung '25 and Laura Bogota '26 evened the score at 12-12 heading into the second.
- In the final quarter of the first half, back-to-back buckets from Bogota & Winston pushed the EC lead to 16-12, but the Soaring Eagles would go quiet offensively for the next seven minutes before a three-pointer from Alleney Klunk '24 with 1:46 remaining trimmed the Mustang lead to just one point heading into the break, 20-19.
- In the first half, the Soaring Eagles would shoot 7-of-32 from the floor compared to 7-of-34 for Morrisville State, while 12 of Elmira's 19 points came from beyond the three-point arc.
- Out of the break, the Mustangs would score the first five points, and eight of the first 11, of the third quarter to push its lead to six just 2:30 into the half. From there, the Soaring Eagles would score 11 straight points over the next five minutes, including a 4-of-4 effort from Winston at the free throw line, and a pair of buckets from Bogota & Klunk, and a made three-pointer from D'Asia Jones to give Elmira the 33-29 lead.
- To finish the end of the third quarter, a pair of free throws from Klunk and a layup from Jones extended the Elmira lead to five, before a pair of Mustang free throws had Elmira heading into the fourth holding a 37-34 lead.
- To begin the final quarter, the Soaring Eagles would start off the period on a 10-0 run on 5-of-6 shooting, while the Mustangs began 0-of-6 from the floor in the first 3:10 as Elmira extended its lead to 13 points, its largest of the contest.
