ALFRED, N.Y. – Elmira College women's basketball played its first conference game of the season on Saturday afternoon when it took on the Saxons of Alfred University in a road matchup. With Alleney Klunk '24, Laura Bogota '25, and Nevaeh Winston '25 finishing with double-digit points.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Soaring Eagles started strong in the first quarter, scoring the game's first 11 points. Bogota scored Elmira's first five points in the first minute of action, including draining a three 20 seconds into the game. After building an 11-0 lead with 2:40 left in the quarter, Alfred scored four unanswered points to close out the first.
- Winston got Elmira started in the second quarter with a layup on the first possession. After Kelsey Stewart '26 made on from beyond the arc, Winston followed suit with a three-point play, making the layup and converting the and-one to put Elmira up 19-6 with 7:26 left in the first half. Two straight baskets by Klunk continued what ended up being a 12-2 run to open the quarter, bringing the score to 23-6. However, Alfred then found its offensive footing and brought the lead down to 12 to end the half, with Elmira holding the 27-15 advantage.
- The Saxons opened the third quarter on a 10-3 run, with Elmira's three points coming off a Mallory Welty '26 three-pointer. With the game now 30-25 with four minutes left in the third, Elmira got baskets from Bogota, Winston, and Klunk to close out the quarter leading 39-29.
- The fourth saw Elmira maintain its lead, with Klunk and Bogota scoring five points in the quarter, including a made three-pointer by Klunk to put Elmira up 13 with just under seven minutes to go. Taylor Jung '25 also joined the action, draining a three-pointer to give the Soaring Eagles a 52-39 advantage with 1:44 remaining in regulation. Elmira's lead shrank down to five points with 29 seconds to go; however, made free throws by Bogota and Winston sealed the 57-50 victory for Elmira.
