Box Score 2 WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Elmira College baseball program split a pair of contests to open its 2023 season against Gallaudet on Saturday in the nation's capital. The Soaring Eagles would fall behind early in game one en route to dropping an 11-3 decision before responding with an offensive outburst for a 22-3 win in game two against the Bison.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Gallaudet would take advantage of early walks from the Soaring Eagles in game one as the Bison would score six runs off one hit to jump out to a quick 6-2 lead in the first inning against Elmira.
Jourdan Plaisted '21 put Elmira on the scoreboard in the top of the frame as he delivered a two-run single that allowed
Colin McLaughlin '22 and
Brett Warden '25 to score after both reached base via a walk and hit-by-pitch.
Looking to make a rally late in the contest, the Soaring Eagles would load the bases in the top of the fourth inning after McLaughlin and Warden worked back-to-back walks with two outs in the frame. The Bison would escape any damage in the frame with a strikeout to leave three runners on base.
The Soaring Eagles would struggle to find baserunners down the stretch as
Matteo Salvati '25 would be the lone EC player to reach base over the final three innings as he was hit by a pitch in the fifth inning.
Justin Hyde '25 started on the mound for the Purple & Gold and would take the loss after working one inning, while
Jarek Podest '26,
Matthew Schultz '26, and
Nicholas Miller '26 all made their Elmira debuts on the mound for the Soaring Eagles.
Elmira flipped the script on the Bison in game two as the Soaring Eagles plated five runs in the top of the second inning.
Kade Cochran '26 highlighted the frame by coming through for Elmira with a bases-clearing triple. Warden and
Jarod Signorelli '23 also delivered run-scoring at-bats in the frame for Elmira.
The Soaring Eagles would bat around in the fourth inning as four runs would score with
Mason Ryan '22 working a bases-loaded walk to highlight the frame. Elmira would go through the lineup again in the fifth inning as
Jared Money '22 highlighted the seven-run frame with a double that cleared the bases and plated three runs.
Three more runs would score in the top of the sixth inning for the Soaring Eagles as Elmira would string together four hits in the frame highlighted by a double from
Francis Milone '26, who would also score a run later in the inning.
Ray Mineo '22 earned the win on the mound for the Purple & Gold after yielding a pair of earned runs through four innings of work. Mineo tallied three strikeouts with no walks and scattered a pair of hits before giving way to the bullpen.
Jack Finnerty '23 worked a clean inning of relief for Elmira before handing the ball to
David Kruis '23, who tossed a pair of innings for Elmira. Kruis scattered a pair of hits while recording a pair of strikeouts and issuing one walk.

The Purple & Gold travel to Flemington, New Jersey for a doubleheader against Moravian University on February 22 beginning at noon. Elmira then heads to North Carolina for three games against William Peace, Alfred State, and SUNY New Paltz.
