Juan Carlos Cruz Gandia '27 made three saves to help the Elmira College men's soccer program earn a scoreless draw against Utica University on Saturday afternoon in Empire 8 Conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Pioneers would get the first scoring look of the contest as Cruz Gandia denied an opportunity off the foot of Utica's Cody Baker-Green in the 19th minute of action.
- Cruz Gandia would stand tall between the pipes again for the Soaring Eagles as he stopped a header from Utica's Nicholas Theimer in the 25th minute of action.
- Elmira started to bring pressure on offense late in the first half as Amani Wandolo '26 delivered a shot on target that would be denied by Pioneers goalkeeper Eduardo Paez in the 39th minute.
- Utica's Theimer would get another scoring opportunity in the second half as his shot would be turned away by Cruz Gandia in the 64th minute to keep the game scoreless.
- Lutho Mlunguza '23 delivered Elmira's first shot on goal in the second half as his chance would be denied by Utica in the 73rd minute of action.
- The Soaring Eagles would be awarded a late corner kick as Valentino Aguilera '27 directed a header towards the Utica goalkeeper that would be saved in the 85th minute.
- Utica held a 10-8 advantage in overall shots in the contest, while the Pioneers had five corner kicks compared to two for the Soaring Eagles.
