AURORA, N.Y. – The Elmira College women's volleyball program dropped a back-and-forth matchup against Wells College as the Express rallied for a 3-2 victory on Tuesday in a non-conference contest.
Three Soaring Eagles finished the match with double-digit kills as
Morgan Richardson '25 recorded a career-high 20, while
Makenna Clark '25 and
Kayla Neer '25 each added 13 kills for the Purple & Gold.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Soaring Eagles opened the first set with back-to-back points before the Express countered with a 7-0 run.
- Wells recorded 14 kills as a team in the opening set and would take advantage of seven attacking errors by the Soaring Eagles to secure a 25-17 victory for a 1-0 lead in the match.
- Richardson recorded three of Elmira's first six kills to open the second set as the Soaring Eagles took an early 6-1 advantage. Later, consecutive service aces from Maddie Boucher '24 sparked a 4-0 run for the Soaring Eagles.
- A 5-0 run in the second set increased EC's lead to 17-6 as Neer notched a pair of kills to highlight the rally. Following a late 3-0 rally by the Express, a kill from Neer secured a 25-19 victory for Elmira to knot the match 1-1.
- The third set would be a marathon for both sides as Elmira rallied from a 21-18 deficit with a 4-0 run to take a 22-21 edge against the Express. EC tallied a pair of points to take a 27-26 advantage before Wells rallied with three unanswered points to secure a 27-29 victory.
- Elmira controlled the fourth set from start to finish as a 6-0 run increased EC's advantage to 13-5 as a pair of kills from Neer along with a pair of aces from Clark highlighted the rally.
- The Soaring Eagles hit .471 as a team in the fourth set with nine kills and one attacking error, while the Express hit .053 with six kills and five attacking errors.
- In the winner-take-all fifth set, Elmira rallied from an 11-10 deficit with a 4-0 run that would put the Purple & Gold within a point of securing the match. The Express would not give in as Wells countered with a 5-0 run to secure a 16-14 victory.
