Soaring Eagles Lock Down Pacers to Secure 59-51 Victory

ELMIRA, N.Y. – Taylor Jung '25 recorded a career-high 17 rebounds, while D'Asia Jones '25 scored a game-high 13 points as the Elmira College women's basketball program won its third consecutive contest with a 59-51 triumph against Marywood University on Wednesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Pacers opened the game on a 6-0 run and would extend their advantage to 10-4 with just under three minutes remaining in the first quarter. Elmira rallied to knot the score at 10-10 with just over a minute left following buckets from Sophia Ward '27, Amarionah Dixon '26, and Abby Belcher '26.
  • Elmira beat the buzzer to end the opening quarter as Jones finished a layup to knot the score at 14-14 with three seconds left on the clock.
  • The Soaring Eagles built an early 22-17 lead in the second quarter before the Pacers rallied to take a 23-22 advantage with 3:56 remaining. Elmira closed the quarter on a 6-0 run as the Purple & Gold would take a 28-23 lead into the break.
  • Following a layup from Kelsey Stewart '26, the Purple & Gold would take an 11-point lead over Marywood with just under five minutes left to play in the third quarter. The Pacers wouldn't finish the quarter quietly, as they closed with a 7-0 run over the final two minutes to trim the deficit to 44-43.
  • Marywood trimmed the Elmira lead to 52-49 with 2:57 left to play in the fourth quarter before the Soaring Eagles would lock things down defensively. Elmira closed the quarter on a 7-2 run as the Pacers lone bucket would come with 24 seconds remaining.
  • The Soaring Eagles finished the contest with a 50-39 edge in rebounds, including 19 on the offensive side of the court. Nevaeh Winston '25 tallied 11 points, two blocks, two steals, and nine rebounds for EC, while Jones and Jung combined for 24 of the Soaring Eagles' points.
 
UP NEXT: The Soaring Eagles host their final home contest of 2024 next Saturday at 2:00 p.m. against the SUNY Morrisville Mustangs inside Speidel Gymnasium.
