Box Score 2 FREDERICK, MD – The Elmira College baseball program opened the 2024 season on Friday afternoon with a doubleheader split against the Hood College Blazers at Frederick Community College. The Soaring Eagles rallied for a 14-7 victory in the opener, before dropping a 6-0 decision in game two against the Blazers.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
	- The Blazers plated three runs in the bottom of the first inning to gain an early advantage against the Soaring Eagles. Hood followed with another run in the second inning as the Soaring Eagles would escape further damage by stranding a pair of runners on base.
- Elmira produced its first run with two outs in the third inning as Kaden Bolt '26 and Brett Warden '25 delivered back-to-back singles with Bolt coming around to score after Warden's hit. Three more runs would score in the fourth inning as Connor Stone '26 plated a pair of runs with a double, while Xander Canfield '26 followed with a run-scoring single.
- Nick Lees '25 delivered the first home run of the season for the Purple & Gold with one out in the fifth inning as Erik Charnetski '24 scored after recording a single for Elmira.
- The Soaring Eagles would break through in the sixth inning by scoring five runs as Warden and Lees both notched two-run hits while EC worked three walks at the plate. Elmira added three more runs in the seventh inning with Jacob Parker '25 plating a run with the bases loaded.
- Jack Finnerty '23 was handed the no-decision on the mound for Elmira after exiting the game with one out in the fifth inning. Finnerty yielded six runs off six hits to go along with three strikeouts. David Kruis '23 earned the win for EC after recording a pair of outs in the fifth inning and closing the game while allowing two runs off two hits.
- Elmira would only be able to produce three hits in game two while stranding four runners on base. Bolt notched two of those hits with a pair of singles out of the leadoff spot for the Purple & Gold. Nathan Ofalt '26 recorded a double in the seventh inning but was stranded on base.
- Jarek Podest '26 suffered the loss on the mound for Elmira after yielding a pair of runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Podest held the Blazers without a hit through the opening three frames before Hood took the lead in the fourth inning.
- Logan Pizzullo '25, Matthew Schultz '26, and Brennan Goin '26 each made their season debut out of the bullpen in game two for the Purple & Gold.
