ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Elmira College women's volleyball program wrapped up play on Saturday with a pair of matches against Smith College and SUNY Potsdam at the SUNY Cobleskill Quad Tournament inside lorio Gymnasium. The Soaring Eagles would drop a 3-0 decision against Smith and rallied to force a fifth set before falling 3-2 against Potsdam. Elmira's
Madi Conti '28 recorded a career-high 19 kills in the matchup against Potsdam.

HOW IT HAPPENED (ELMIRA vs. SMITH):
- Smith opened the first set with a 7-0 run and would later go up 8-1 before Elmira recorded back-to-back points on a kill from Madi Conti '28 and a service ace from Gabriela Rodriguez '26. EC would put together a 3-0 rally later in the set thanks to a kill from Morgan Richardson '25 and a block from Asia Curkendall '25.
- Leading the first set 11-6, the Pioneers used an 8-0 rally to increase their advantage to 19-6. EC did tally three consecutive points late in the set to make it 21-10 before Smith recorded four of the final five points to secure the 25-11 victory.
- Conti highlighted a 4-0 run in the second set for the Purple & Gold while Rodriguez and Morgan Sica '28 also notched kills for EC. A 3-0 run late in the second set for the Soaring Eagles would see Myia Murphy '27 and Kayla Neer '25 notch kills along with Conti.
- Elmira opened the third set with a 5-1 run and would hold a 9-5 advantage before the Pioneers used a 4-0 rally to knot the score 9-9. Neither side would lead by more than two points in the set until a late 3-0 rally by the Pioneers broke a 22-22 tie and secured a 25-22 victory as Smith completed the 3-0 sweep.
HOW IT HAPPENED (ELMIRA vs. SUNY POTSDAM):
- Potsdam would tally victories in each of the first two sets to jump out to a quick 2-0 lead in the match against the Soaring Eagles before Elmira would work its way back against the Bears.
- After seeing its 20-17 lead in the third set erased to a 20-20 tie, Elmira rallied for four points to gain a 24-20 advantage as Sica and Curkendall added a pair of kills for the Soaring Eagles. A kill from Sica off an assist from Curkendall two points later would secure the 25-21 victory.
- The Purple & Gold would use the momentum from the third set to battle to knot the match in the fourth set as Richardson tallied six kills in the set for Elmira, while Makenna Clark '25 added five kills. Richardson fueled a late 3-0 run in the set as she notched three straight kills to give Elmira a 23-17 advantage. A kill later in the set from Clark would secure the 25-20 victory and force a fifth set.
- In the fifth set, the Soaring Eagles erased a 7-5 deficit with a 5-0 run to gain a 10-7 advantage as Richardson delivered a pair of service aces. Elmira later gained a 14-10 advantage but would be unable to secure the decisive 15th point as the Bears rallied to take a 15-14 advantage in the set.
- Elmira tied the score 15-15 before Potsdam recorded back-to-back points to avoid the reverse sweep at the hands of the Purple & Gold and win the match 3-2.
