Women’s Basketball Falls in Road Matchup against Sage, 59-55

ALBANY, N.Y. – A seven-point differential in the second quarter was the difference on Tuesday as the Elmira College women's basketball program dropped a 59-55 decision against the Russell Sage College Gators in Empire 8 Conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Gators gained an early 8-4 lead in the contest before the Soaring Eagles stormed back to knot the score before grabbing the lead. Laura Bogota '25 drained a 3-pointer to pull Elmira within a point at 8-7 with just over five minutes left to play.
  • Taylor Jung '25 followed with another 3-pointer to give EC a 10-8 lead before Bogota hit a jumper to make it 12-8. D'Asia Jones '25 closed the scoring in the quarter with a layup to put the Purple & Gold up 14-10.
  • Elmira would lead by as many as six points in the second quarter before the Gators rallied to trim the deficit to 18-16 with just under five minutes to play. Sage closed the quarter with an 8-2 run to take a 24-21 lead into the half.
  • Sage pushed its lead to 29-21 to open the third quarter before the Purple & Gold would come storming back to knot the score. Bogota tallied five consecutive points for Elmira, while her teammate Nevaeh Winston '25 knotted the score 29-29 at the free-throw line.
  • Both sides traded 3-point baskets over the next three minutes of action as a trey by Bogota trimmed the Sage lead to 38-35 with 3:31 remaining. Elmira closed the quarter with consecutive buckets to cut the deficit to 43-41.
  • Elmira kept the momentum going to open the fourth quarter as the Soaring Eagles tied the contest before getting consecutive baskets from Emma Ryan '28 to make it 47-43. EC would hold the lead until the 3:59 mark as Sage connected on a pair of free throws to make it 51-49.
  • Bogota paced Elmira with 13 points, while Jung added 10 points and 11 rebounds. Winston and Amarionah Dixon '26 each recorded three blocks as the Soaring Eagles notched seven blocks in the contest.
 
UP NEXT: The Soaring Eagles will host two Empire 8 Conference matchups this weekend inside Speidel Gymnasium. Elmira will host Brockport on Friday at 5:30 p.m. and Geneseo on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
