GENESEO, N.Y. – The Elmira College men's soccer team came up just short in a 2–1 setback to SUNY Geneseo on Saturday afternoon at College Stadium, as Ole Esselmann '28 rifled off the Soaring Eagles' lone goal in the match.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Knights opened the scoring in the 15th minute when Dylan Thody converted a penalty kick, giving Geneseo an early edge. Elmira responded well and generated several quality chances, including shots on goal from Juan Ortegon and Pietro Gallina, but the hosts carried a 1–0 lead into halftime.
Geneseo doubled its lead in the 68th minute on a second goal from Thody, but the Soaring Eagles refused to fold. Forward Esselmann broke through in the 90th minute, finishing off a setup from Luka Tatanashvili '29 to cut the deficit in half.
Goalkeeper Juan Carlos Cruz Gandia '27 kept Elmira within striking distance all afternoon, recording an impressive 10 saves — his second double-digit effort of the season. Offensively, Elmira totaled 10 shots and forced four saves from Geneseo's keeper Max Crothall.
