Defense Holds Strong as Men's Soccer Draws with Brockport on Saturday Afternoon

ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Elmira College men's soccer team would battle the visiting Golden Eagles from SUNY Brockport on Saturday afternoon, drawing with one of the top squads in the Empire 8 despite being outshot 13-2 in the contest. Elmira College goalkeeper Juan Carlos Cruz Gandia '27 was forced to make seven saves in net en route to earning a shutout.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The first half would end up playing scoreless, as Brockport held the advantage in possession, as well as shots, 4-0. In the half, Gandia was forced to make three saves between the pipes, while the Soaring Eagles held the 2-0 advantage in corner kicks. 
  • The Golden Eagles offensive attack picked up right where it left off in the first half, as through the first 35 minutes in the second frame, the visitors were able to force nine shots compared to one for Elmira, forcing Gandia to make an additional five saves. 
  • Elmira's lone shot in the contest came from the foot of Horacia Vicioso '26, who forced Brockport goaltender AJ Nelson to make one save.

The Soaring Eagles head to Alfred State on Wednesday, October 22 for a non-conference matchup against the Pioneers at 7:00 PM before traveling to Nazareth on Saturday, October 25 to take on the Golden Flyers in Empire 8 play.
