SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Elmira College men's wrestling team traveled to compete in the NYS Collegiate Open with six wrestlers.
John Robyck was seen collecting a first-place finish while
Donavan Smith collected a third-place finish in their respected weight classes.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Robyck competed in the 285-weight class in the Freshman/Sophomore division and posted a 4-0 record on the day. Robyck opened the day with an 18-2 tech fall over Mason Suro from Brockport. In his second match, he pinned Colton Hai from Alfred State at 1:26. In the semifinals, Robyck won in an 8-2 decision over Brady Callahan from Cortland to advance to the championship match. He was crowned the individual champion after recording a 9-2 decision against Hamza Merrick from Niagara County Community College.
- Smith competed in the 165-bout and posted a 5-1 record on the day. Smith opened the day with a 17-2 tech fall over Kevin Regan from SUNY Brockport followed by a 13-3 major decision over Luke LaMagna from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. In the quarterfinal match, Smith recorded a 15-0 tech fall before falling short of the mark in a 4-1 decision in the semifinals. Still looking for a podium finish, Smith notched a 15-2 major decision over Max Morrison from SUNY Brockport and a no contest against Alex Kauffman from NYU to garner third place.
- Devin Strother competed in the 133-weight class in the Freshman/Sophomore division and posted a 1-2 record on the day. His lone win of the day came in a fall at 2:49 against Devin McNamara from Oneonta State.
- Rhojan Monfort competed in the 184-bout in the Freshman/Sophomore division and posted a 1-2 record on the day. His lone win of the day came in an 18-3 tech fall over Brandon Cirincione from Oneonta State.
- Kaiden Ellis was seen representing the Soaring Eagles in the 165-weight class in the Freshman/Sophomore division along with Cache Littrell in the 165-bout in the Freshman/Sophomore division.
UP NEXT
The Soaring Eagles will host their first dual inside the Speidel Gymnasium on Wednesday, December 3 where they will honor their seniors. Elmira will face the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford with the match slated to start at 6:00 PM.
