Ramirez' Go-Ahead Bomb in the Eighth Gives Soaring Eagles Win on Home Opener

HORSEHEADS, NY – The Elmira College Soaring Eagles returned home for a non-conference matchup against Penn College on Tuesday, securing a 7-6 win behind timely offense and strong bullpen performances. AJ Ramirez '27 came on as a defensive replacement in the top of the eighth inning and homered to left in his only at bat, which turned out to be the game-winning run.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Elmira jumped out to an early lead in the first inning as Canfield drove in two runs with a ground-rule double, followed by a Connor Stone '26 two-run homer to left field, putting the Soaring Eagles ahead 4-0.

The Wildcats tied the game in the fifth with an RBI single by Dallas Griess, but Elmira quickly reclaimed the lead. Brett Warden '25 tripled to bring home a run and scored on a throwing error, making it 6-4 after five innings.

The Wildcats would tie the game 6-6 in the top of the eighth inning against Warden on the mound.

Ramirez delivered in the bottom of the frame with the go-ahead home run, a no-noubt moonshot to left, giving Elmira the lead for good.

Canfield closed out the ninth inning, securing the win for the Soaring Eagles.
