Elmira Drops Saturday Matchup against Sage

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Elmira scored the first two runs of the contest before Sage rallied for nine runs in the fifth inning en route to a 25-7 victory in seven innings against the Soaring Eagles in an Empire 8 matchup on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Matteo Salvati provided the first run of the game for the Soaring Eagles with a single that scored Kaden Bolt in the top of the first inning.
  • Nick Lees later made it 2-0 in favor of Elmira with a single to left field, as Brett Warden raced around third to score.
  • Sage cut the deficit to 2-1 in the second inning with a double and would later knot the score following a single. The Gators grabbed the lead in the frame with a two-run single to make it 4-2.
  • Elmira pulled within a run at 4-3 in the fifth inning as Gabe Fellows laced a single to left field to score Ryan Trenholm.
  • The Gators manufactured a nine-run fifth inning, which included a three-run home run and a bases-clearing double.
  • The Soaring Eagles would get back to work in the sixth, as Trenholm and Bryan Jimenez both recorded run-scoring singles. Elmira also scored on a wild pitch in the frame, followed by an RBI groundout from Bolt.
  • Sage would put the game out of reach by scoring 12 runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 25-7 lead.
  • Elmira would get a pair of base runners in the top of the seventh inning but would be unable to push across any runs to extend the game.
  • Bolt paced Elmira with three hits in the contest, while Warden, Trenholm, and Salvati recorded two hits each for the Purple & Gold.
