ELMIRA, N.Y. – Elmira College's Amarionah Dixon (Women's Basketball) and the Elmira College Cheerleading Team were recognized on Thursday evening by WETM 18 Sports during the 9th Annual Twin Tiers Sports Awards.
Sponsored by Mansfield University Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Dixon's big shot for the Elmira College Women's Basketball Team with five seconds remaining in the fourth quarter in a win at home against Utica took home Twin Tiers Sports Highlight of the Year.
Other nominees for Highlight of the Year included Coleton Owen from Horseheads HS, Malaki Banks from Elmira HS, and Lia Mazzali from Corning HS.
Sponsored by John's Equipment Rental, Elmira College brought home the award for College Team of the Year for a second consecutive year as the Cheerleading Team secured its fourth national championship in April at NCA College Nationals. The Soaring Eagles secured their second national title since 2022 after receiving a raw score of 89.9333 in the Advanced Small Coed Division finals.
The Elmira College Women's Ice Hockey Team, who was also nominated this year for College Team of the Year, was voted as the 2024 winner of the Twin Tiers Sports College Team of the Year.
Other nominees for College Team of the Year included Cornell Men's Lacrosse, Alfred Softball, and Elmira Women's Ice Hockey.
