Soaring Eagles Fall in Defensive Road Battle to Nazareth

Rochester, N.Y. - The Elmira College women's basketball team hit the road to Nazareth University for their fifth Empire 8 matchup of the season. A strong first half from the Soaring Eagles was not enough as the Golden Flyers broke away after the half, leaving EC to drop the contest 46-31.

PLAY-BY-PLAY
Nazareth was first to hit the board before a three-point shot from Lauren Miller quickly recaptured Elmira's lead. Both teams traded points during the first quarter, seeing Amarionah Dixon and Emma Ryan with shots in the paint to enter the second quarter in a 10-10 draw. Dixon broke the scoring first, recapturing the Soaring Eagles lead with a layup in the paint. A 5-0 run from the Golden Flyers kept them close, until a foul sent Hayley Mosch to the line to tie the game back up. Another foul from Nazareth sent Mia Welty to the line and give Elmira the 16-15 advantage at the half.

EC opened the third quarter with Ryan and Mosch draining a three from downtown. Layups from Kelsey Stewart and Ryan continued to give Elmira the advantage. The Golden Flyers played a pesky offense, going on a 13-0 run to close the third quarter leading 34-26. In the final quarter of play, Ryan once again opened play with a three-point shot to leave the deficit at eight. Another 9-0 run from Nazareth ultimately sealed the game, besting Elmira 46-31.
