Elmira Uses Strong Second Half to Push Pash Russell Sage, 71-49

Albany, N.Y. - The Elmira College Women's Basketball team traveled to Albany for a conference matchup with the Gators of Russell Sage College on Friday evening. A strong third quarter helped Elmira pull away from Russell Sage and grab the conference victory, 71-49. 
 
PLAY-BY-PLAY
The Gators opened the scoring with a three-pointer. Amarionah Dixon stole the ball and drove in for a layup and Elmira's first points. Haley Mosch scored seven consecutive points for EC, capped off with an and-one opportunity. The last four minutes of the first quarter were super defensive with each team only scoring 2 points. The Soaring Eagles held a 13-10 lead after the opening quarter of play. Russell Sage went on a 5-0 to recapture the lead. Lauren Miller responded right away with a three-pointer to give the Soaring Eagles the advantage. Emma Ryan was able to get inside and make a layup with 7 seconds left in the half. Elmira led 24-19 entering the third quarter.
 
Miller started the third quarter with a pair of three-pointers for Elmira. Mosch and Kelsey Stewart made threes as well as the Soaring Eagles went up by 11 points. Dixon added a three-pointer of her own to keep momentum in favor of the Soaring Eagles. Miller landed another three-pointer right before the buzzer to put EC up 52-35. Elmira made six threes in the third quarter as they were able to pull away from Russell Sage. Miller started the fourth with another three-pointer. Mia Welty got in on the action with another three-pointer as the Soaring Eagles continued to pull away. EC shot 41 percent from three-point range, compared to just 25 percent for Russell Sage. The defense was able to close out the game from there as Elmira claimed a 71-49 victory. 

Leaders
Offensively, Miller led the way with 17 points including five three-pointers. Mosch had 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Dixon scored 10 points, dished out five assists, and led the way defensively with four steals.

The Soaring Eagles travel to Hartwick College for a conference matchup with the Hawks on Saturday February 7th. Tip-off is set for 2pm.
