The hot hand of Emily Green '18 was instrumental in guiding the Soaring Eagles to a 2-0 week, as she paced all players with 18.0 points per game in the non-league victories over Pennsylvania College of Technology and SUNY Cortland. Against the Wildcats she netted 15 points, a season high at the time, while tying her season best with seven rebounds, as the Purple and Gold put down the Wildcats in a decisive 65-23 win.
The Fredericksburg, Virginia, native then tallied a career-high 21 points, 14 of which came in the second half, as the Soaring Eagles snapped a 15-game losing streak to non-conference rival SUNY Cortland. She scored five consecutive points as part of a 7-0 EC run to start the third quarter, including one of her three 3-point field goals on the night. In the fourth quarter, she registered three-point plays on back-to-back possessions moments after the Red Dragons trimmed the lead down to one. After connecting on another trey, she converted all three tries from the charity stripe after being fouled on an attempted 3-pointer.
Not only has the junior guard led the team in scoring over the past week, but her three-game double-digit point streak coincides with Elmira's three-game win streak. In her EC career, the Soaring Eagles are 7-3 when she scores 10-plus points, illustrating just how impactful Green has been. In fact, dating back to the 2015-16 home finale, she has scored double digits in all four games of EC's four-game home win streak. On the season, she sits third on the team with 11.3 points per game.
Green and the Elmira women will look to continue their winning ways in 2017, as the Soaring Eagles cap off their four-game homestand and open Empire 8 Conference play against Hartwick College on Tuesday, January 3rd, at 6:00 p.m.
