Andy Reed '19 helped the Soaring Eagles secure the Empire 8 series against Stevens, as EC took two of the three games from the Ducks in Hoboken, New Jersey. In the series finale on Sunday, the sophomore left-handed pitcher was called out of the bullpen in the fourth inning and shut down the Ducks en route to a 7-5 victory.
In 6.0 scoreless innings, Reed gave up just two hits and struck out one. He surrendered both of those hits in the fifth inning, but induced a double play after giving up a lead-off single to erase the would-be tying run before a two-out double. Then in the sixth, he stranded a runner on third by fanning Stevens' first baseman Alex Detweiler, a dangerous power hitter who homered in game two of the series on Saturday.
The Fairport, New York, native ended the game with three perfect innings, going 1-2-3 through the side in the seventh, eighth, and ninth.
Sunday's relief outing was tied for the longest of Reed's sophomore campaign. He's tied for the team lead in victories after improving his overall record to 3-3. In his four appearances out of the bullpen this year, the second-year southpaw boasts a paltry 0.75 ERA and a .150 batting average against.
The Soaring Eagles will hit the road on Tuesday, April 18, when they travel to Alfred, New York, for a non-conference contest against Alfred State at 3:00 p.m.
