In a pair of home games to conclude his sophomore campaign, Jesse Adelson '20 pieced together the two best games of his collegiate career. The second-year guard dropped a game- and career-high 26 points to guide the Soaring Eagles to a stunning 97-92 upset of Stevens Institute of Technology on Friday night at Speidel Gymnasium. He was efficient from all areas of the floor, finishing 9-of-12 overall (75.0 percent) and 5-of-7 from 3-point range (71.4). One of his 3-pointers gave EC the lead for good at 90-88 late in the second half, and he extended the lead to two possessions with a steal and coast-to-coast layup 25 seconds later to help seal the win.
During Saturday's regular-season finale against Houghton College, a tough 108-103 overtime loss, Adelson scored 22 points. The Closter, New Jersey, native picked up 18 of his points from beyond the arc on a career-high-tying six treys. He also went a perfect 4-for-4 from the foul line, in addition to tying his season-high with a trio of steals.
In 2017-18, Adelson was one of five Soaring Eagles to average double-digit points, ranking fourth on the team with 11.3 points per game. He proved to be one of EC's top distance shooters with a career-high 55 treys and a team-best 40.1 3-point field-goal percentage. Adelson's standout year helped Elmira not only break the team record for most 3-pointers in a season (242), but he was also a vital member of an offense that ranked second in the Empire 8 in scoring (82.1 ppg).
