For the second time in just three weeks, Katie Granato '19 has been honored as a recipient of an EC Athlete of the Week Award. In a two-game series against Lebanon Valley at the Murray Athletic Center, the senior forward amassed nine points (6g-3a), which included two power-play tallies and one game-winner.
In Friday night's 12-0 rout of the Dutchmen, Granato posted a remarkable stat line with seven points on four goals and three assists. Her seven points are a single-game career-high for the fourth-year standout from Naperville, Illinois, and are tied for third-most in a game in program history. She also tied a career-high for goals in a game. Granato's seventh point of the night, an assist on EC's 11th goal, was a significant one, as it made her the 13th member of EC's prestigious 100-point club. On Saturday, Granato netted two of the Soaring Eagles' three goals in a 3-0 win. Both of her scores came on the power play, with her first going down as the game-winner.
Following her multi-goal performance in the second game of the series, Granato moved into 10th-place all-time in Elmira history with 102 career points. She also moved into fifth place in goals (58). Through the first five games of the 2018-19 campaign, the fourth-year center leads the nation in points (14), goals (11), goals per game (2.20), and power-play goals (5).
Granato and the No. 1/1-ranked Soaring Eagles will enjoy a two-week break, before returning to action at one of the nation's toughest tournaments, the annual Cardinal-Panther Classic. On Saturday, November 24, Elmira will face the host Panthers of No. 5/5 Middlebury at 3:00 p.m.
