Taylor Hanson '21 fueled an offensive explosion that guided the Soaring Eagles to a 2-0 week against a pair of non-conference opponents. In a midweek matchup on Wednesday, September 12, at Wells, the sophomore forward recorded her first career hat trick, as EC walloped the Express by a 7-1 score for its first win of the year. Then on Saturday at Campus Field, Hanson added another goal, as part of a 4-0 shutout against SUNY Cobleskill.
The Chatham, New York, native is the first Soaring Eagle to tally a hat trick since Mollie Hamilton '15 did so in a 4-0 win in 2013 season-opener against Lycoming, and her six points against Wells are the most since Niki Lemper '17 amassed six (2g-2a) against Alfred in a 5-1 victory in the 2015 finale. With five goals in the past four games, Hanson is one shy of the lead in the Empire 8 Conference and ranks third in the league with 10 points.
Hanson and the EC women's soccer team will look to ride the momentum of their two-game win streak into the 2018 E8 opener on Tuesday, September 18, when the Soaring Eagles host Hartwick at 4:00 p.m. at Campus Field.
