Both Connor Powell '20 and fellow EC Athlete of the Week Ariella Haas '22 excelled on the ice on Friday night in United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) victories over King's College (Pa.), as the former led the EC men to an 11-1 win on the road and the latter helped the nationally-ranked women's ice hockey team defeat the Monarchs at the Murray Athletic Center by a 12-1 score.
Powell finished the weekend with five points (4g-1a), beginning with a natural hat trick in the first period against the Monarchs. He potted the eventual game-winner on the power play at 1:32 in the opening period, followed by an unassisted goal at 6:30 and a shorthanded tally at 8:13. Powell's prolific scoring helped the Soaring Eagles net the most goals in a game since beating Johnson & Wales, 14-0, on December 5, 2003. On Monday afternoon, the Merrimack, New Hampshire, product added two points (1g-1a) to his ledger, as Elmira skated to a 4-4 draw at Wilkes University.
Powell and the Elmira men return to the MAC for a pair of league games this weekend, beginning with a 7:00 p.m. matchup with Manhattanville College on Friday, January 25.
