Matt McGaugh '21 carded the best round for an Elmira men's golf squad that won its first tournament since the fall portion of the 2014-15 campaign. At the 2019 SUNY Cobleskill Jug Classic, hosted by the Fighting Tigers at the Cobleskill Golf and Country Club on Friday, September 6, the third-year linksman fired a season-low 79 (+9) at the par-70, 6,163-yard course and finished in a two-way tie for third place.
Originally from Hamilton, New York, McGaugh led the Purple and Gold by parring eight holes. He logged his lone birdie of the afternoon on the par-4 15th. His 79 was one stroke shy of his score from the 2018 rendition of the Cobleskill Jug Classic, while his placement in the field of 31 marked the best of his Elmira career.
Looking to build off of their victory with another strong performance, McGaugh and the EC men's golf team are preparing for a mid-week round at the Keuka College Invitational on Wednesday, September 11, at the Lakeside Country Club in Penn Yan, New York.
